Hello Kia Ora.

We are Johnny and Bee, the duo behind The Paper People. We work out of a sunny studio in Dunedin in the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. All of our cards are hand designed by Bee who works as a graphic designer and illustrator and Johnny is our digital guru. He’s also worked in retail in London and is great at looking after all of our lovely customers who come from far and wide.

We started The Paper People as we wanted to see cards that were made locally and had a familiar feel to the designs. We wanted to see summer scenes on Christmas cards and we wanted to see Made in NZ written on the back. Covid brought about the idea of personalised cards making it easy for people from all over the world to send a real card to people they love in New Zealand.

Not only do our cards look great but they feel great too. They’re high quality with a soft finish and our locally made envelopes are thick and heavy. Sustainability and keeping it local are really important to us. We don’t have any plastic packaging, our cards are made from sustainably sourced paper and our printing is done locally. Even our cardboard packaging for larger orders is made here in Aotearoa.

Thank you!

Our customers are everything to us. Most of them are coming back again and again, and we can’t thank them enough. Bee sends out a personal email to each and every customer who orders a stamped personalised card from us, and we get a lot of emails back to say how much people appreciate how we have made their lives a little bit easier, and some lucky persons day a little bit better. Because at the end of the day that's what card giving is all about right? Sending a little love to someone.

We also have to thank all of our wonderful wholesale customers who are helping spread the joy of The Paper People cards from the top tip of New Zealand, right down to the south. Bookshops, museums, art galleries and pharmacys, flower shops and nurseries;  our cards can be found in more and more places as people discover us. We have designed our first baby countertop card stand with more in the pipeline. We also sell to a lot of small businesses who like to keep a stash of cards handy for their own colleagues and customers. Again we thank you. Here’s to the card lovers!

Our Tree Planting Charity 🌿

When we started The Paper People we decided to support Million Metres (part of Sustainable Business Network), a charity who plant native trees around the waterways of our beautiful country. We give a 5¢ donation for every gift card you buy towards restoring Aotearoa's waterways. The project we are currently supporting is WAI Wānaka who are a community group made up of passionate individuals with a shared vision of healthy ecosystems and community wellbeing for future generations.

Million Metres first partnered with WAI Wānaka back in 2017 to support the Wānaka Water Project, which has already enabled more than 18,000 native plants and trees to be planted along waterways in the catchment. Funds raised will continue this mahi, helping WAI Wānaka to reach their goal of planting 24,000 plants and trees by 2023.

  • Our Cards

Our greeting cards are printed using beautiful eco-friendly FSC© certified recyclable paper and a digital offset printing method which gives a finish much like traditional printing. Printing digitally means we can print small runs with no wastage. Our ink is compostable and the printer is carbon neutral - how cool is that.

  • Our commitment to sustainability

When we began The Paper People we wanted to be as sustainable as possible. Our packaging is made here in NZ by R3pack and noissue who both strive to be as sustainable as possible and our orders are delivered by NZ Post which commits itself to being carbon neutral.
